GLOBAL HEALTH COLLEGE (GHC)

Brief background & Introduction

Global Health College (GHC) started in 2006 as the training arm of Youth Health Organization (YHO) Uganda, named YHO Training Center, the center ran short courses at certificate level for both already qualified Mulago hospital staff and the students who used mulago hospital as their training hospital, these included students from Makerere Medical School, Mulago Paramedical and Mulago school of nursing & midwifery. The major course ran by the institute at the time was Certificate in HIV/AIDS Counseling & guidance which was offered in conjunction with MOH, STD/ACP, at the same time TASO also helped a lot in stream ling and strengthening our curricula for the certificate in HIV/AIDS counseling course

Overtime through various consultations by management and lobbying to the YHO board, the institution proliferated to the addition of more courses to its training profile.

In 2008/2009 1 year Certificate & 2 year Diploma in Counseling & guidance started

By December 2008, a total of 427 nurses and other allied health professionals had been trained by YHO and convincibly acquired the key skills of dealing with the daily HIV/AIDS demands of their patients.
